About your Practitioner

Meet Barrett Welch, LMT#29457

The Heart Behind Sapphire Sun

Hello! I’m Barrett (she/her), a massage therapist based in Portland, Oregon. My intention is to offer a grounding experience that helps you feel more present and at ease in your body.

I approach wellness through a holistic lens, recognizing that the mind, body, and environment are deeply interconnected. I believe healing and lasting change begins with the nervous system, and my work is designed to help your body feel safe and supported, creating a container for you to access your body's innate wisdom and natural capacity to heal.

Each session is individually tailored to your needs and may incorporate a blend of techniques such as Swedish massage, deep tissue, craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, and gentle stretching, along with influences from Eastern philosophy and Ayurvedic principles.

My path to massage therapy began within my own healing journey, where I experienced the transformative impact of bodywork alongside a long-standing yoga practice. These experiences shaped the way I understand the body, not as something to fix, but as something to listen to. I believe massage therapy is a meaningful and proactive form of care, a way to build resilience, regulate the nervous system, and tend to your well-being in a sustainable way.

When I’m not in session, you can find me at the yoga studio, creating art, dancing to live music with friends or sharing a delicious meal with my husband. I also love spending time in nature with my dog or curling up with a good fantasy novel.

Inside the Studio

A Space to Land & Exhale

Nestled in Portland’s Montavilla neighborhood, my home-based studio offers a warm, welcoming space to slow down.

The space is creative and a little funky - filled with art, plants, and thoughtful touches of color. It was intentionally designed to support healing, inspiration, and a sense of ease. During golden hour, light filters through the windows and casts soft rainbows across the room, adding a quiet sense of magic to the space.

Soft lighting, grounding textures, and a calm atmosphere invite your nervous system to settle and your body to begin to soften.

Because the studio is located within my home, there is a cat (Sake) and a dog (Harper) who live here. They are always managed during sessions, and clients do not interact with them. Your comfort and ease are my priority.

A Blended Approach

All sessions are 60 or 90 minutes and are thoughtfully tailored using a blend of techniques including Swedish, deep tissue, craniosacral therapy, myofascial release, gentle stretching, and Ayurvedic influences.

Swedish Massage

The backbone of massage; A classic, gentle massage using long, flowing strokes to calm the nervous system, increase circulation and relieve muscle tension.

Ayurvedic Massage

An integral part of the traditional healing system of Ayurveda. Its focus is on restoring balance within the body and mind. Using warm oil and rhythmic, flowing strokes, it supports circulation, nourishes the tissues, and encourages deep relaxation. This approach helps calm the nervous system while promoting a sense of grounded vitality and overall well-being.

Myofascial Release

Gentle, sustained pressure that works with the fascia - the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles throughout the body. Using slow, steady pressure, it encourages areas of restriction to soften and unwind. This can reduce chronic tension, improve mobility, and help the body feel more balanced and at ease.

Works with the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to address chronic tension and areas of persistent holding. Using slow, intentional pressure, it helps release tightness, improve mobility, and restore balance within the body. While more focused and targeted, it is always applied with care and in collaboration with your comfort and nervous system.

Deep Tissue

Craniosacral Therapy

Gentle, subtle technique that works with the rhythms of the nervous system and the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Using light, attentive touch, it supports the body in releasing deep patterns of tension and shifting into a state of rest and regulation. Many people experience it as profoundly calming, helping the whole system settle and restore.
